Author Biography

Victoria was born in Jamestown, New York, and now resides in Sacramento, California with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She grew up reading, waiting anxiously for the next good book to be placed in her hands. It was only natural she would turn to writing as a hobby. She has been writing since childhood, always looking for the next story to tell. Writing is as natural a part of life for her as breathing. She loves getting to know her characters and bringing them to life. She is in as much anticipation about the ending of a story as she hopes her readers are.

**I have many children in my family, eight of which are my grandchildren. When I wrote two of my granddaughters as protagonists in my Crime Solver's series, the rest of them wanted a book for themselves, mainly one of girls' big brothers. I decided to make an adventure story, since they are boys and love to pretend they are on adventures in the yard. Then I thought it would be fun to see all the children in my family in the story. So, every character in the story is loosely based on a child in my family. **

Fight for the Kingdom by Victoria Schwimley sees Aiden wanting to join the Adventure Scouts during his summer vacation. His friend has been a member for the past two years and Aiden has to convince his dad that he is responsible and accountable during the camping trip with him and his brother, Trystan. Aiden gets the chance to prove his worth when he and his brother go behind a flying light and venture into the Kingdom of Anka. They realize that they have to now help to defend the kingdom from an angry mother dragon who wants her egg back. During their time there, they meet many interesting and exciting characters who help them sort out their problems. Will Aiden and Trystan be able to save the kingdom from the angry dragon or will it disintegrate in a cloud of smoke?

The story is filled with mystery, adventure, suspense, and intrigue and is a real page turner. The Castle, the Queen, the Fairy Sisters, Alyssa, Karrinda, and the rest of the characters make the story magical, enchanting, and adventurous. The author’s narrative gives a good movement to the story and makes it a fast paced book. She makes the narration detailed and her descriptions are so vivid that readers can actually feel as if they are right there with Aiden and Trystan. For all those who love adventure and fantasy stories, this book will take them on an entertaining trip. All the characters in the story are well portrayed and they make an impact on the minds of young readers with their powers and actions.

Fight For the Kingdom was a fun, clean, easy read. I think the complexity level is perfect for 8-9 yr olds. My favorite character was Zachary, the keeper of foxes; he gave me a chuckle. With a nice array of characters, I can see little ones entranced with the quest that Aiden and his younger brother, Trystan, are presented with.

A camping experience for 11-year-old Aiden and his brother, 8-year-old Trystan, turns into an adventure they never expected. Behind a waterfall, they enter another world on the other side, the Kingdom of Anka, where they search for the stolen dragon’s egg. Along the way they meet the two fairies Jayden and Jacy, Jay James, Zachery, Queen Aryana, the egg stealer Karrinda, Zachery, Alyssa, Fizzle girl, and Ayden, another boy from their world. Aiden’s mysterious teacher appears in both worlds, as does his Dad. A fun read as Aiden and his brother fight for the kingdom and earn the titles Sir Aiden and Sir Trystan!

A camping trip turns into a magical adventure for two young boys! A mysterious voice beckons them to another world behind a beautiful waterfall where they find dragons, fairies and plenty of excitement. A wonderful story for young readers.

I received an electronic copy in exchange for an honest review. What began as an ordinary camping trip turned into a journey filled with magic, castles, dragons and kingdoms. Readers of all ages will enjoy Aiden and Trystan's journey of success where they help the queen save her kingdom. There is much to learn, from how to protect yourself from bears to how to fly like Peter Pan. Children will learn that they can accomplish any task they set their minds to if they stay the course, allow others to help them and overcome opposition. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy fantasy.

Fight for the Kingdom is a cute adventure story set in a wonderful fantasy world of fairies and other interesting, magical characters! The protagonists are absolutely adorable and the antagonists are appropriately devious and evil without being too dark. While I loved the protagonists, I found the antagonists interesting because of their backstories. If you have read some of the older fairy tales, then you know that many of the villains in those stories were victims of circumstance and experienced some sort of fall from grace. I think Schwimley balanced the older style of storytelling with some contemporary twists to keep it fresh and relevant to her target readers.

Another element that caught my eye was the pace of the story and the world building. I've noticed that some children's authors tend to make the setting too elaborate and the pace of the story suffers, or the pace of the story is awesome and the setting is too overgeneralized. The plot certainly has a grand, adventurous, and epic feel to it with enough attention to world building to ignite young imaginations while keeping the plot moving at a good pace to keep a younger audience engaged.

The chapters are laid out well, making Fight for the Kingdom a perfect bedtime story for six-year-olds while providing good breaks for eight-year-old readers to read the book on their own. Definitely worth adding to your family's library!

Look, this is not a book for adults. It's a book for kids. Not like Harry Potter is for kids, this is REALLY for kids.

There's goofiness, there's worrying about your parents' opinion of you, there's looking out for your little brother, there's being brave and there's studying everything you can about your environment before you camp.

It was a delight! I listened to it before I showed it to some of my charges, just to make sure it was appropriate. They loved it! The ones around 12 thought it was silly and scoffed, but kept listening "because of my little brother", the ones between 3 and 8 had a blast!

Victoria Schwimley wrote such a cute, wholesome book! I really liked their journey and the lessons in the story that I could discuss with the kids. Vicky was a great narrator - and storyteller! While some of the voices she made annoyed my adult ears a little bit, I am 100% sure she would have been able to keep 20 kids enthralled with her live storytelling. It was wonderful, in that sense!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review, and there it is! I would just recommend that the cover is updated and the writing made a little better-looking (even if image is kept intact), just so that it catches the eye of more people!

A quirky fantasy tale involving two young brothers and a quest to save a mysterious kingdom from an angry mother dragon. My 5-year-old daughter looked forward to reading this with me every night. I like how the 11-year-old was so good about taking care of his little brother—a good opportunity to teach my young ones about watching out for each other.

A delightful tale about two boys who go on a camping trip only to find themselves on a magical adventure in another land. Lots of fun and quirky characters and a great moral message contained within the story. A real gem!
