Finding the Eye of the Storm is a memoir that recounts Richard Greene’s near-death experience and the transformation that followed. He describes losing sensory awareness during cardiac arrest and perceiving existence as a single, connected whole. This realization reshaped his understanding of individuality, family, and purpose. Greene discusses how marriage and raising children taught him patience, acceptance, and selflessness, while his near-death experience confirmed that unity underlies all life. He details daily practices, especially Loving Kindness meditation, used to remain calm, aware, and compassionate. Drawing from the teachings of the Dalai Lama and Lao Tzu, he outlines “five pillars of truth”: compassion, curiosity, gratitude, humility, and kindness. Greene connects these principles to honesty, accountability, and active listening, describing how they guide communication, relationships, and peace in a distracted, fear-driven world.

Finding the Eye of the Storm by Richard Greene is a courageous and honest memoir that clearly comes from and speaks to the heart. Greene does well in describing his experience and applying it to real-world, everyday life. In a day and age where social media has become something of a battleground, Greene suggests listening to differing opinions with an open attitude and seeing how human behavior and perception can shift through patience and attention. His recommendation to slow down, to respond with a smile or a kind word, is refreshing and something that takes almost no effort to apply. There is a quiet assurance in Greene’s approach, as his practical examples of accountability and letting go of control feel manageable and grounded. Overall, this is an inspiring and eye-opening look from the unique perspective of a man who literally died and came back to a more nurturing way of life. Recommended.
