First Bite is the first book in the Accidental Vampire PI series by Avery Daniels. After a disastrous blind date, twenty-three-year-old Misty Indigo Summers' night takes a turn for the worse when she is bitten and turned by a rogue vampire. Trying to acclimatize herself to being a vampire with the help of the Meta-Mundane Council, Misty is also busy solving cases for the clients at My Private Sherlock, a PI agency. She finds herself investigating the case of a missing young woman named Layla Adair, hoping to utilize her new vampire abilities during the investigation. Helping her along the way is a witch called Rowan Donovan. But the rogue vampire that turned Misty is back and creating havoc all over town. Will Misty be able to take on the added responsibilities and navigate her new life?

Author Avery Daniels spins an intricate murder mystery tale full of vampires, witches, and talking cats that keeps you entertained from start to finish. Moving at a brisk pace, the plot takes wild twists and turns, keeping you guessing until the end. The characters are vibrant and colorful, with spirited personalities you can't help but find yourself attached to. The narrative follows Misty, an immensely likable young woman who wants to help others even at the cost of her own convenience. Her bubbly and optimistic personality is incredibly infectious and makes you root for her. I thoroughly enjoyed First Bite and heartily recommend it to vampire fans or readers who love paranormal sleuth stories.

First Bite (Accidental Vampire PI #1) by Avery Daniels is a sleuth mystery that would appeal most to a diverse audience of female adults and young adults who enjoy clean mystery stories with a supernatural twist. Misty Summers is a woman who lives her life with positive thinking and affirmations that get her through most of her days with a smile. A strange encounter leaves Misty Summers with a sharper smile and a new set of supernatural skills that she plans to make good use of in the service of her PI boss. Her vampire assets, positive nature, and desire to help her boss unexpectedly leads her from a simple missing person case to being the center of a murder. Does Misty Summers have what it takes to master her new skills, help her boss, and solve the case?

First Bite (Accidental Vampire PI #1) by Avery Daniels is a very well-written book with an enticing cover image that hints at the alluring vampire mystery story within. I have to say that I found this book to be a very enjoyable read. Normally vampire tales end up being either gory or teen-oriented, but this book avoided both of those stereotypes perfectly. I enjoyed the way the author kept the book clean while still having a suspenseful murder mystery case for Misty Summers to solve. I enjoyed the way Misty developed as both a character and a vampire throughout the plot and I can’t wait to see how she will continue to grow as a character in the next book!

First Bite: Accidental Vampire PI #1 is the first book in a new mystery series by Avery Daniels. Misty's best friend insisted that this blind date would be different, but the night quickly went from bad to disaster when he tried to get handsy in the parking lot. To top off her night, she was chased and bitten by a mysterious attacker. When she first gets the news of a lifetime that she was turned into a vampire, she's in denial but slowly accepts her new reality. She decides to use her new abilities to save the PI business she works for before her newly divorced boss shuts it down. She takes on a missing person's case which turns into a murder investigation and could put Misty in over her head. As the story progresses, she finds new allies who give her a place to belong. Getting turned into a vampire shakes up her world and casts her into a supernatural existence, taking her on a journey to redefine herself.

The dramatic opening delivers an immediate laugh and sets the tone for the story. It also gives the perfect example of Misty's strong-willed attitude as the first thing you read is her telling off her blind date. The humor is derived through her internal dialogue and her denial about her suddenly dead taste buds and loss of appetite. Misty is immediately likable and with a personality that makes the mystery fun, chaotic, and charming. Avery Daniels provides vivid details such as a sickle moon setting the scene for the night she gets turned into a vampire. The story is rooted in Misty adjusting to the changes in her life as she takes on a case to find a missing girl and solve a murder, which pushes her to work beyond just saving her job. A hint of romance is threaded into the story when a handsome stranger appears in her life and serves as a guide to learn about her new world. First Bite is a humorous treat written in a lighthearted style, with delightful characters and a supernatural twist.
