Flurry's Nose: A Snowgirl Tale by Haley Argyle is a children’s picture book about one of the most important lessons a young child can learn: your self-worth is not determined by your looks. Flurry the snowgirl is a beautiful nose model, living her dream life. Until one day, a hopping bunny steals her most precious feature – her stunning orange nose. Flurry couldn’t believe it – what was she going to do without the one thing that made her beautiful? While she was down in the dumps, a kind police officer gives Flurry his flashlight, and Flurry’s luck seems to be turning. She feels as if she is finally back to the beautiful model she was before when she finds a scared little snowboy. Flurry thinks back to how lonely and scared she was without her nose and realised that the little snowboy must be even more afraid. She gives him the flashlight and sees his eyes and nose light up. Flurry has learned the important lesson that looks aren’t all that matter, and she has learned to accept herself for who she is.
Flurry’s Nose is a sweet and beautiful picture book written and illustrated by Haley Argyle. The author has immense talent as she writes a lovely message all children need to learn, and illustrates it to boot. Her illustrations are soft and dynamic as well as embrace the Christmas spirit. Haley’s message about loving yourself, including the way you look, is incredibly important today. Our children are looking at Instagram and TikTok models and comparing themselves to unrealistic beauty ideals. This is a magnificent book about kindness and loving yourself, and should be a feature on every child’s bookshelf.
