It all started with her decision to move to Mars, a colony of Earth, to be with her husband. Little does Michelle Arensen, a linguist from Earth, know that nothing would ever be the same again. Without warning, a faceless race of aliens raids the colony, taking her away from her brother Phil, her husband Dave, and her new life. After countless days of torture, as she serves as a lab rat, her world goes black. She wakes up to yet another alien race called the Vinyi aboard their spaceship, the Yukesi. As she later learns, the Vinyi had discovered her in space, frozen in an antiquated cylinder, where she had been for the last eight decades. It does not help that the Vinyi know nothing about her galaxy or home world. Will she ever find her way home? What’s her fate in Hoikke, the world of the Vinyi? Get yourself Lesli Weber’s Found: Book One of the Vinyi Chronicles to discover more.

With a subtle tone to the storyline, Weber unfolds the plot with vivid depictions. I could never tell where the story was headed. One moment I was keenly following Michelle adapting to life on the colony of Mars. The next thing I knew, I was staring in horror as she was fighting for her sanity and life, alongside a few other acquaintances she had made on the colony, while being held hostage by a hostile alien race. Fear, terror, and despair were her only friends. Weber brings out the cast’s emotions and traits, allowing me to connect with them. In the distant world of Hoikke, Michelle must learn to exploit every ability she possesses to survive, and perhaps find her way home, if she ever will. Lovers of slow-burn science fiction will find Lesli Weber’s Found an enthralling read.
