In Francine and Her Special Talents by Dr. Regine Muradian, Francine is unhappy because she hasn’t made the sports tryouts for soccer and volleyball. She didn’t want to leave her bedroom when her Aunt Nancy and cousins visited. Her mother attempted to cheer her up with cookies but failed. Aunt Nancy was concerned because Francine wasn’t her usual bubbly self. She suggested they take a walk and asked what the problem was. Francine told her aunt what occurred and how she felt like a failure. Aunt Nancy asked about other hobbles that she was skilled at. Francine said she loved sewing, singing, and playing the saxophone. Aunt Nancy suggested that these were the hobbies that Francine should practice because she displayed how talented she was. This advice made Francine feel confident and happy again.
It’s easy for young readers to relate to the social issues in Francine and Her Special Talents. Dr. Regine Muradian's writing is expressive and realistic. Francine behaved like a typical child when she didn’t make the sports tryouts but talking to her Aunt Nancy about her concerns made Francine feel better. Everyone has hobbies that they excel at, and some that they like but aren’t good at. This is what Dr. Muradian conveys in her lovely story. Irina Zhernovnikova created the beautiful illustrations. There’s a fun activity section at the back of the book that Francine asks children to complete so she can learn a little about them. This is an excellent book that I recommend to all young readers.
