How much is enough? For some people, there is no such thing. They want it all and don't care how they get it. Frayed Memories by Leila Kirkconnell is a perfect example of such a case. The protagonist is super-rich Mia Lemari, who wakes up in a hospital after a months-long coma, unsure of how she got there. As she slowly regains her physical abilities, Mia struggles to remember what happened, confusing dreams with reality. She is frequently visited by her husband Kurt, a handsome and intelligent man who seems attentive, but he is why Mia is in the hospital. Driven by greed and with a complete lack of empathy, Kurt decides to finish the job and kill his wife. But there's a problem; someone is on to him, and he can't figure out who. At the same time, Mia also discovers that someone is watching her. Trapped in the twisted maze of her broken mind, Mia must regain her memories before she loses her sanity and, ultimately, her life.
Filled with suspense and the tension of a tightrope, Frayed Memories by Leila Kirkconnell is a psychological thriller with an air of mystery. The plot focuses on a wife's struggle to regain and keep her life as her husband battles to retain control of a deteriorating situation so he can kill her and gain her wealth. Themes of greed, corruption, opportunism, and a lack of remorse are inherent in such a novel and allow the author to intensify the dark feel of the story. The characters are well-developed, and while a few may be predictable, there are also some delightful surprises from others. With a strong and steady pace full of angst, Frayed Memories is a deep dive into a world of sinister aspirations colliding with untold truths.
