Author Barry Robbins transforms 50 famous quotes, movie lines, and cultural moments ranging from Shakespeare to Star Wars into hilarious tariff-themed one-liners. Whether it’s Bob Marley urging, ‘Don’t tariff, be happy’ or Hamlet mourning, ‘I tariffed him,’ the result is a perfectly irreverent blend of politics, parody, and pop culture wit that really showcases the silliness of the situation we’re in right now.
Author Barry Robbins has always had an eye for satire and keeping up to date with sociocultural and political events, and his new book is a brilliant fusion of political satire and meme culture for sharp-witted readers who are sick of the merry-go-round of modern leaders and their silly point-scoring arguments. I really enjoyed the hilarious visual presentation in this volume, and it pairs perfectly with clever, pun-driven text for short, sharp surprises that are certain to bring about genuine belly laughs (be careful when reading in public!) and big, knowing grins for those who’ve seen this circus before. It’s also highly accessible humor that works across political spectrums without ever needing to be high-brow for its own sake, which is very leveling and refreshing in political satire. Overall, It Takes A Tariff… A Tariff Meme Book is certainly recommended as an ideal gift or coffee-table conversation starter for comedy lovers everywhere, and I’m sure it will do well as the circus of politics in the U.S.A. continues to drive itself round and round.
