From Rocket With Love by Christopher Dyer is the second and stunning entry in the Rocket series, a wonderful mix of romance and suspense. Mike Willett had a life of great success, with riches that allowed him to buy anything he wanted, but then things change dramatically. He loses almost everything, and is now unable to pay his bills. Ann has to work to pay them for him. He is fast racing down the path to becoming a pariah. In fact, the narrator comments: “...his face was unshaven and his clothes dishevelled.” This escalates when he suddenly disappears but could the kidnapping of Rocket’s foal bring him out of hiding? What happens when he discovers that he is suspected of a crime he is determined to solve?
Christopher Dyer’s novel is very engaging and entertaining, character-driven, and well-crafted. The writing is insightful and balanced. I love the way the author develops the different themes, including love, friendship, crime, and a man’s search to redeem himself. The insightful thoughts are a treasure trove in many passages. Here is one about self-esteem that helps the reader get into the soul of the story: “It's a strange thing self-esteem, when you have it, you haven't a clue it's there, but when you lose it, boy do you ever know it?” Readers will certainly be captivated by the descriptive and tight prose, the powerful images of the plot, and the scenes. The story is emotionally charged and readers won’t find it hard to connect with the characters. From Rocket With Love is a delightful and captivating read. I couldn’t put it down.
