Abduction by Mark R. Belsky, MD, is a rollicking ride for fans of medical and terrorist thrillers. The story follows Max Dent, a top Boston heart surgeon with a secret past as a Mossad assassin. After a lecture in Paris, Max is ambushed, tranquilized, and secretly swept off to Tehran, where he's forced to perform surgery on Iran's ailing ayatollah. The ayatollah failed to protect him after the successful surgery, and now he must fight his way out of Iran. His girlfriend, Lilah, a psychiatrist, travels to Paris to find him and, with help from the Mossad, discovers who kidnapped him. With a new threat facing Iran, Max’s past comes back to haunt him as Lilah is captured by the terrorist family of two men Max killed years ago. Can Max save Lilah, or will she become the perfect revenge?
Abduction gave me the same level of entertainment I had while reading The Kill List by Frederick Forsyth and The Last Spy by Barry Meier. It is cleverly plotted, and the author is skilled in creating scenes that brilliantly portray the tension associated with medical procedures. The pursuits and confrontations with terrorist groups were just exhilarating. The story is packed with action, and from the explosive premise to the riveting denouement, I found myself rooting for the fully drawn characters throughout the plot twists and the relentless build-up of tension. Mark R. Belsky, MD, writes like an expert and in a voice that is captivating. I enjoyed the action, the suspense, the engaging dialogues, and the vividly drawn international setting.
