Fussy Willikers: The Baby Sock Thief is a children’s picture book written by Ryan McLemore and Ashley McLemore, and illustrated by Yuqi Lu. As any parent knows, something strange happens whenever washing day comes around. Perfectly good pairs of socks are suddenly transformed into sad and mateless singles. This may seem especially true when it comes to baby socks. Where do they go? In this entertaining little tale, authors Ryan and Ashley McLemore have created a strangely beguiling little creature with a penchant for collecting socks, in particular, baby socks. Whatever is Fussy Willikers doing with all those socks, and why does he only take one of each pair?
Ryan McLemore and Ashley McLemore’s children’s picture book, Fussy Willikers: The Baby Sock Thief is a sweet and funny look at the sock-stealing gremlin who keeps on stealing baby’s socks. I loved seeing Fussy’s hideaway tucked away in the wall behind the washing machine, complete with his little den and his poster showing his life’s goals. Artist Yuqi Lu’s illustrations are a deft touch that bring this fun story and Fussy Willikers to life. This is a grand book for story time with very young children who may identify with the baby who keeps on losing socks and has no idea why. It’s also a great choice for a first primer for a new reader. The vocabulary is simple and the detailed illustrations will help beginning readers figure out any new words. Fussy Willikers: The Baby Sock Thief is most highly recommended.
