Getting Ready for My Eye Surgery by Fei Zheng-Ward is a picture book that talks kids through eye surgery. If your child has to have eye surgery, they are probably nervous and scared. This book will alleviate their fears, offering lots of useful information and pictures to help. They’ll learn about all the different parts of the eye, how the eye works, and about different eye problems and surgeries. Then comes the surgery, followed by useful tips on recovering as fast and safely as possible. This is the perfect storybook to help make things a whole lot less scary than kids might imagine at first.
I’ve read several books by Fei Zheng-Ward, and this one is written in the same engaging way that makes the subject easy to understand. There are useful pictures to help kids see what they are reading about, and the author uses language that anyone can understand. Lots of fun facts are included, and plenty of tips on helping a child recover from their surgery. There’s space to write questions they may want to ask their doctor and to draw a picture of how they will celebrate once they are recovered. At the very end, there are helpful notes for parents or guardians, so they know what’s happening, too. This is a wonderful book that makes eye surgery seem far less scary than kids might think, and it’s designed to make learning simple and set their minds at rest, achieving that with ease.
