Goody the Elf in Different Cities: Stanfordville is a fabulous book for children that continues the series by Lilian Ruach. A little elf named Goody, who lives under an oak tree in a land ruled by kindness, is on a special mission to make the world a better and happier place for all children. In this installment, Goody travels to Stanfordville, a nearby city. Goody notices the bright smiles of the children who play in the city square. But he also senses worry that lingers in the air. When he meets Titimoo, a child who struggles with his homework and feels sad, Goody encourages him and promises a gift for doing his homework on time. But will Goody’s encouragement help Titimoo? And what gift will Goody give to Titimoo to celebrate the achievement?
What an immensely rewarding read! I appreciated how Lilian Ruach incorporated the wisdom of her three decades of experience as a child carer into Goody the Elf in Different Cities: Stanfordville. I liked how the black-and-white illustrations by Denzel Erinne both supported the narrative and stimulated imagination and creativity, as children could also color them. Happy, animal-loving, and kind Goody and hardworking and determined Titimoo could be great role models for children. Homework is often daunting for children and adults alike, and the intriguing, gentle, and instructive way to encourage children to do homework was beyond praiseworthy! I also appreciated the reward-based approach to encouraging hard work and determination. I highly recommend this admirable magical tale to primary school children, parents, child carers, and everyone young at heart.
