Meet gorgeous Ruth as she is called in the story Gorgeous Ruth by Albert Chang. Ruth chips her tooth while sitting by the sea. She smiles daintily and her tea cup, which is porcelain, cracks. She spills some tea, but is unfazed. Ruth takes a new cup and the seagulls around her laugh with glee. Ruth draws the beach, sand, and water beneath her feet. She finishes drawing her portrait and rests under an umbrella. The sun sets and Ruth rests beneath the moon and the stars. Gorgeous Ruth’s life is devoid of all strife as she dances in her dreams.
Gorgeous Ruth’s life is enviable and children will want to have a day like hers on the beach; calm, relaxed, and peaceful. Though her cup and tooth are both cracked and chipped, Gorgeous Ruth has a solution for both and enjoys her time on the beach with the seagulls, waves, umbrella, moon, and the stars. The illustrations are adorable and they bring Gorgeous Ruth and the scenes alive for readers. What I like about the story is that it brings a wave of calmness over readers and encourages them to look at life like Gorgeous Ruth.
It is a good bedtime storybook and children will find it entertaining during story-telling and read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The blissful and positive vibes in the story are what make it lovable and charming. Gorgeous Ruth’s attitude towards life can be followed by everyone and the way she handles life is uplifting to see.
