Gratitude Renewed: A Journey Journal is an inspirational Christian work written by De Miller and Mark Miller. De Miller is a Christian author and filmmaker and Mark Miller, his son, is also an author. De Miller was inspired to create this book after finishing his film, God, Where Are You? It begins with a story about the world of hurt that David finds himself in. He was happily married, had a great job and two kids, but then his wife left him for his best friend. David feels like he’s lost everything now that his childhood sweetheart is gone. He can’t understand why this would happen to him. Slowly, he begins to see that the why of it doesn’t really matter and that he has to take stock of what he still has. This first chapter ends with a provocative question for the reader -- what do you have to be grateful for? There’s a starting ‘freebie’ answer and several blank pages for the reader to fill out before continuing on to the next chapter.

De Miller and Mark Miller’s inspirational work, Gratitude Renewed: A Journey Journal, is an interactive challenge to their readers that will have them reexamining their lives and turning those lives around. I enjoyed the parables and stories that began each chapter and liked the way the authors present the gist of the lesson learned as a concluding journal assignment. This interactive approach makes the book so much more than just another inspirational or self-help book. The authors show step-by-step methods for celebrating the joys of life, learning to forgive and accept forgiveness, accepting the hard things that come by and giving of oneself fully and freely. I especially liked the challenge the authors make in the chapter on giving. Gratitude Renewed: A Journey Journal is highly recommended.

Gratitude Renewed: A Journey Journal by De Miller and Mark Miller is an inspirational and introspective book. Life is a difficult and uncertain journey and most people wonder why bad things happen and why doesn’t God just give us everything we want. The authors state: "If you will follow the suggestions found in the pages of this book and fill it up with your own personal story, you should have a better understanding of the why and a deeper understanding of your own faith.” The book goes through various personal issues including: forgiving others, self-forgiveness, acceptance, finding calmness, having patience and moving on. At the end of each chapter, there is a reflective question section (related to that chapter’s material) along with several blank journal pages for the reader to use as desired.

I found Gratitude Renewed: A Journey Journal to be a very motivational and positive read. Life is not always easy and anything people can do to keep their spirits lifted and have a positive mindset is always a good thing. I liked how there were several questions along with blank journal pages at the end of each chapter. This gives readers an opportunity to apply the material to their own lives. Sometimes in life, it’s easy to focus on the bad things and take all the positives for granted. When we take a quiet moment to sit down and reflect, actually writing down all the good things we have (whether family, health, a home, etc.), we finally see how blessed we really are.

It can be difficult to learn how to forgive, how to move on, and simply how to live your life to the fullest. So many of us are incapable of doing this and incapable of truly understanding what it means to live as God’s children and as an extension of Him. Throughout Gratitude Renewed by De Miller and Mark Miller, you will see and experience ways that each and every person, as an individual, can make a difference in their own life and the lives of others. People are different and people require different things to be happy and successful, but they do have the ability to do those things and to achieve what they want for their life. This book is a great way to help anyone get where they want to be in life quickly.

I loved the blank pages at the end of every chapter that really helped you focus on yourself. It’s sort of a homework assignment, but not. You’re told what to do with those pages and how to complete the activity, but it’s really something easy to accomplish and carry out. I really liked being able to take the information from the chapter and put it into my own life. Things like writing down what you’re grateful for really puts your life into perspective. Each chapter is also very short and to the point so you really feel like you’re learning something without a lot of extra noise. Gratitude Renewed by De Miller and Mark Miller is definitely a book I will hold onto for a long time.
