Half Past Monday by M. Erpenbeck revolves around Dr Dominic Rivera and his wife, Clarissa, and their little daughter, Savannah. Clarissa had worked as a part-time physician at a local health-care facility prior to becoming a mother. She ran the house with detailed precision and Dominic envied her ability to manage a home and career together effortlessly. Dominic first met Clarissa when he moved to Arizona and he found her gorgeous. His friend, Thomas, told him that she had inherited a crazy gene from her mother and was nuts. That did not stop Dominic from falling in love and making Clarissa his wife. Things took a different turn that Halloween morning when everything looked strange for Dominic while going to work, and when he got back home too. He found out that his daughter was missing. Would Dominic be able to find a way to save both his daughter and his wife?

The story is amazing yet at the same time frightening. It is filled with intrigue, suspense, and grief. The plot has many twists and turns and the author manages to maintain the tempo till the very end. The narration is detailed and readers can feel the fear and creepiness as the plot progresses. The main characters of Dominic and Clarissa have been well portrayed and Dominic's angst and pain are palpable to readers. Be it Clarissa’s past, her mother Mary, his friend Thomas’ drug abuse, Dominic’s marital problems, and time travel, the author knits them all together masterfully, making this a compelling read.
