Hallway of Messages 2.0 by Rainy Knight is a compilation of the author's original songs and street poetry, each touching on emotion, outlook, and both the physical and private aspects of humanity. In the song Is It Okay With You?, the singer examines a relationship with someone unconventional, observing their quirks and small acts of care while questioning mutual balance. Blue Nun focuses on a person striving to follow rules or ideals, highlighting both her discipline and personal flaws through detailed observation. The titular poem Hallway of Messages reflects on memories and messages from the past, using images of angels, birds, and light to depict moments of love and loss. Potatoes presents a portrayal of inactivity and wasted time, employing the symbol of “couch potatoes” to comment on idleness and routine.

Rainy Knight’s Hallway of Messages 2.0 is a tremendous collection, with each piece standing on its own while still coalescing into a circular-knit mix of songs and poetry. The language of Knight's songs flows with a natural musicality, countered by the free structure of the poems. While it is difficult to choose a favorite, the poem Strength is a lovely ode to the sun’s influence on life, showing how warmth and energy give vitality to plants, people, and the whole world around them, in refreshing and life-affirming verse. The song Down On My Knees To You is haunting by comparison, and there can be no confusion about the degree of pain the singer has as they plead for understanding in a fraught relationship, wrongly accused, feeling like they are on trial and judged unfairly by the other person. Overall, this is a heartening anthology. Very highly recommended.
