In Hatchling's Vengeance: Book 4 of the Dragshi Chronicles by Helen Henderson, the main characters are Lord Talann, Lady Glynnis, Haldric, Nesseq, Leirche, Parant, Galiel, the dragies, Lady Eirwen, Lady Lexiis, her father, Lord Liam Orfhlaith, and her mother, Lady Dealan Givemteir. There are many more colorful characters, each one with their own role, no matter how small the part they play in the story to bring it to the most delightful conclusion. The names of the various places they visit sound magical, scary, and fun and hold the reader's attention to find out more about these mystical places. The characters' names are enough to let the reader know they are going on a great adventure in times past.
In Hatchling's Vengeance, author Helen Henderson has taken the history of Ireland and Scotland and written a magical story about dragons and knights, ladies, and the Guild of healers. Helen takes the reader on a wonderful journey from the prologue to the last chapter and the epilogue. The way the story evolves is a delight and piques the reader's interest so that they will keep reading just to find out what is going to happen and if good triumphs over evil.
The author has made good use of her knowledge of both the ancient languages of Scotland and Ireland. By doing so, she weaves a mysterious world where dragons and people live in such an unusual way that the characters feel very real and could have lived during the period when the story is set. It has fantasy, romance, and sci-fi all rolled into one tale. This was a most enjoyable book, and I found that story lingered long afterward in my mind and thoughts. Thank you for a lovely, exciting read. A most intriguing and interesting book.
