In Havana's Dice Roll by Owen Parr, Julia, who is related to the first president of Cuba, has lived in the USA most of her life. She is a successful investment banker, and during one of her business trips in Paris, she meets Alex. Was their meeting an accident or something that was carefully planned? Later, the Cuban Council in Exile, which dreams of liberty for Cuba, finally unites and unanimously elects Julia as their leader. Alex is sent to convince her to accept the position. As the exiles work on their strategy, the Castro regime is also not lagging in its strategizing to safeguard the regime. They have Ramirez, who is loyal to the revolution and helps to raise money for the Castro regime. What other strategies does the government have to ensure its survival?

Havana's Dice Roll by Owen Parr is wonderfully written, and once you start reading it, there is no putting it down. The writing is crisp, engaging, and filled with dialogue that brings the story and the well-developed characters to life. It’s also thought-provoking and got me thinking about the Cuban revolution and how the regime has survived for this long despite the fall of the Soviet Union. Owen ensured all events were vividly captured, which helped create a mental picture of what was happening, and I also loved the seamless flow of the plotline, which ensured no room for confusion. The reader will also appreciate the easy-to-understand language used, which makes it accessible to all audiences. I look forward to reading something else by Owen Parr.
