He Will Never Forsake You: Deut. 31 by Mark Johns is a spiritual autobiography that powerfully demonstrates the spiritual battle between the forces of Good and Evil in the life of one man. It reads, somehow, like the confessions of St. Augustine of Hippo, covering the life of the narrator from his early years till maturity. As a child growing up in a dysfunctional family, anyone would think there would be no hope for young Mark Johns. He writes: “My father was an alcoholic; my mother was an alcoholic and a prescription drug addict. Dad was agnostic, mom was atheist and yet they sent their children to a Catholic school.” These are words that introduce this odyssey of faith, words that hooked me and made me want to read this story.
If mom was an alcoholic and a drug addict and dad an alcoholic, one only needed to make one logical conclusion: the son must be both! At a tender age, after his dad’s accident, he became aware of loose women, dabbled with books on witchcraft, astrology, the dark arts, and the occult. Follow the story to see the power of grace and how it triumphed in his life, thanks to the intervention of God-sent personalities who opened his eyes to the beauty of God’s love and the wonderful encounter with God.
He Will Never Forsake You: Deut. 31 is a story that shows how far God can go to save a single lost soul, a story that will inspire readers to develop a consciousness of the power of our connection with God. The story is told with utter honesty and the reader feels like peering beneath the veil of faith to perceive the author’s nakedness. It takes a lot of faith, love and courage to give such testimony and it speaks eloquently of the power of the encounter the protagonist has had with God. I loved this book because it contains a piece of the journey of each seeker.
