Heidi M. Grant's Healing Wings follows a woman's journey from a traumatic past to learning to heal and accept those who care about her. Lady Ari'an is rescued and returned to a world she hardly remembers after being forced to work as a temple prostitute in a foreign land for four years. Subsequently, a man called Danren and a dragon named Narden tenderly nurture her back to recovery while she struggles with memories of her terrible past. As she grows fond of the dragon, Ari'an struggles to understand that Danren will not harm her as her captors did. At the same time, she learns more about the world around her, such as the majestic dragons and a higher power that differs from the gods she grew up learning about. Will Ari'an ever fully adjust to her new reality?

Healing Wings is meticulously crafted by Heidi M. Grant to elicit intense emotions; it reveals the characters' deepest concerns and feelings throughout. Danren's patience and compassion toward Ari'an, despite being continuously pushed away by her, reflect the type of unconditional love that Jesus is shown to have in the Bible, a lesson I believe all Christian readers will benefit from. It is written in the first person while switching between the views of its main characters to provide a broader view of the story. As you follow their emotional struggles, it is easy to get thoroughly absorbed in the story's medieval backdrop, dragons, religious factions, and other aspects of its well-developed world. Overall, it has an engaging narrative.
