His Last Lie is a suspenseful novel by Erik Therme. Ryan Driscoll never had a great relationship with his father, so when Lou Driscoll hands him a box with specific instructions, Ryan takes it seriously. When his father suddenly dies, Ryan puts aside his mixed emotions to honor his father's final request. Ryan and his fiancee, Rachel, are planning their wedding while Ryan is out of work, so the contents of the box would help them. However, the couple sets out to locate Jamie Norton, the person to whom Lou said the box now belongs. As Ryan researches Jamie Norton and the reason his father wants him to deliver the box, Ryan uncovers a web of lies that has him questioning everything he thought he knew.
Erik Therme knows how to build multi-layered characters with unique voices. Everyone acts exactly as one would expect, providing consistent characters in a plot that may swerve before readers see it coming. The author stretches the limit on twists, leaving the reader speechless. Once past incidents are explained through a character's recollections, readers will feel like they have been on a roller coaster ride of intense emotions. Therme creates such an easy banter between Ryan and Rachel that may make readers wonder if he's writing about conversations he's had with his significant other. It's certainly a book that will resonate with readers long after the final page. Readers who enjoy mysteries, suspense, and thrillers will love His Last Lie.
