Holding on to Mrs. Right: Romantic Destinations, Book 2 is a contemporary romance novel written by Debbie White. Martin Castle and Chad Reynolds have never gotten over the anger and hostility they felt when Chad ended up with Martin's girlfriend when they were young men. Their feud was now interfering with their children's lives, however, and Martin's son, Ryan, was determined to change things. It simply made no sense for neighbors to feud, especially when it meant that he had to keep his growing relationship with Chad's daughter, Francesca, a secret. The two of them were in love and badly wanted to share their feelings with their parents. Ryan had other big plans for the family's vineyard as well. He had gone to college and gotten a graduate degree in Oenology and wanted to use his training to make the family vineyard a booming business. First of all, he wanted to build a tasting area and later make their own wines. Ryan wanted both his family and Francesca by his side for these plans, so getting the two men to forget the past was essential.
Holding on to Mrs. Right is an entertaining and fast-paced tale set in the vineyard country of northern California. While this is the second book in White's Romantic Destinations series, she provides enough background material to enable this book to be read on its own. I enjoyed following Ryan as he designs the tasting area and works with his father to expand the vineyard. The Wine Festival is great fun -- the author really got the feeling and conviviality of these popular events down pat for the reader. My only regret in reading this novel is that Linda, Ryan's mother, and his sister, to a lesser extent, seem mired down in traditional gender-specific roles as a homemaker first and foremost, which seemed at odds with the setting. I'd love to see this updated a bit to more accurately reflect northern California culture. That said, Holding on to Mrs. Right: Romantic Destinations, Book 2 is a sweet romance that's recommended reading.
