It’s nice to have things that belong to us: toys, books, special treasures, you name it. Sometimes others want to enjoy your things, too. Honey clears out her toybox, looking for a jump rope. When her young brother enters her room and sees Honey’s action figures, he asks if he can play with them. At least he was conscientious enough to ask. Honey says, “No” and that makes Shaq sad. Later, when Honey and Shaq are at the park, playing with Honey’s friends, everyone shares, even with Shaq. Honey learns that it's okay to share with Shaq, even if he is younger. They have such a good time that Honey decides she’ll allow her brother to play with her toys.

Cynthia K. Finlay and Celeste Taylor’s picture book story, Honey Learns to Share, is another book in the Honey and Her Friends series. In this story, the plot weaves around Honey and her possessiveness over her toys, something that she has to learn to overcome. With the help of friends and observing the positive power of everyone sharing in a good time, the plot evolves and Honey learns that sharing is an important characteristic to promote. The story is told in simple language with lots of dialogue so young readers can follow along with ease. The bright, colorful illustrations help move the story forward. Honey has a lot to learn as she grows up, as do the young readers who will enjoy this series. Each book in the story has an important and powerful message and lesson to ‘share.’
