Healthcare professionals can be misunderstood, especially during a diagnosis, by patients having no medical background. To prevent this, physicians and other health professionals need to develop cognitive habits that promote automaticity and sharpen their perception and attention. Dr. Christine Ko is the Professor of Dermatology and Pathology at Yale University. She underwent auditory therapy with her family for her son. In How to Improve Doctor-Patient Connection, Dr. Ko shows practical measures for more effective communication between physicians and patients. The author explores healthcare communication from a psychological perspective. Inside, she delves into relationship-centered care, metacognition, and metaperception. Dr. Ko emphasizes that physicians must recognize their patients' humanity. She also encourages them to strengthen the doctor-patient connection through "clinical empathy." Readers will also learn about cognitive biases and much more.

It's unfortunately very common for patients to lose trust in their physician simply because they can't understand what's been conveyed to them. For this reason, I think How to Improve Doctor-Patient Connection will be beneficial for doctors and other healthcare professionals, as well as patients. Dr. Christine Ko presents practical ways to ensure doctor-patient interactions go smoothly and that both of them are in tune with each other. She uses stories from real life as examples to highlight her observations and make sure readers are able to easily grasp the concepts discussed in the book. I'm not a healthcare professional. But as someone who's been to the hospital way more times than I'd prefer, I certainly wish I had read this book before. As it is, I found this very informative and illuminating. Highly recommended.
