Katrina Ruse’s Hunted by the Silvermoon follows Eletta Lowell, a hunter raised inside Greyhaven’s Venatorum Order to defend human settlements from werewolves. Her latest assignment sends her into Black Hollow Ridge after an enormous black wolf with ice-blue eyes, yet the moment Eletta draws her bow, an unfamiliar awareness settles between hunter and wolf. The encounter changes her senses as other wolves begin appearing around her with an intelligence that rewrites everything she learned during training. Lucas Beck, the Venatorum leader sent to retrieve Eletta, arrives personally with a recall order that turns the mission toward Eletta herself. Eletta follows that connection farther into the forest as every new sensation shifts the hunter’s place in the pursuit beneath her, drawing her to a world that has existed beside Greyhaven all along.
Katrina Ruse’s Hunted by the Silvermoon is an incredible fantasy romance. Rivan, the Morwald pack alpha at the heart of the story, is a wonderful romantic lead. His gentleness comes through in a secluded garden near Ravenhold, the pack’s forest settlement, where he brings Eletta simply to sit with him. My favorite is Mara, a Ravenhold resident determined to feed everybody, whose mothering nature comes through during a communal dinner as she fusses over Eletta’s stew. The author does a great job of making Ravenhold feel like a real community. Garrick, one of its senior pack members, brings that everyday life into the training grounds as he works with the younger wolves. The supporting cast gets great moments, including Silas, a pack member who naps in wolf form beneath a tree as two children climb onto his back. Readers who enjoy fantasy romance with lovely chemistry are in for a real treat. Very highly recommended.
