There’s not much that can ruin more lives and create more mayhem than hate and hate is exactly what’s brewing in Hyde’s Corner. Not only are the Hydes the owners of nearly everything in the little town but they’re also the arch enemies of the Burks. The two families clash throughout their time in Hyde’s Corner, leaving loved ones dead on both sides of the feud. There never are winners in a blood feud because even when dead, the enemy can haunt you in No Man’s Land.
Bergstad’s book is an amazingly detailed story of love and hate. The characters are a family looking to get their start in a completely different part of the country. They find exactly what they always wanted on a cattle ranch in Oklahoma Territory. The problems begin when the Hydes move in and the families don’t take kindly to each other. You’ll definitely find yourself drawn into the conflict between these two families because it seems so realistic. You can just see how pride and arrogance could lead these people to make decisions and choices that lead to even worse outcomes.
I loved how the characters of this book seemed so real. You actually come to really like them and want to know more about them. When bad things happen, you find yourself sad and wanting revenge right alongside. This was definitely a great start to this trilogy and I look forward to reading the rest as well. Bergstad wove an intriguing thriller that won’t leave your mind.
