What do you know about yourself? Did you know that you are one of a kind, unique, beautiful, and resilient all in your own way? You’re also creative, smart, honest, caring, generous, unstoppable and so much more. But best of all, you are important, precious, and loved. We all are. In I Am Stardust: Mindful Positive Self-Affirmations Picture Book to Build up Your Child's Self-esteem, Matilde Léon follows one young astronaut who explores the universe and discovers all the wonderful things that he or she is. Be curious and brave and feel good about yourself, confident in all you are and all you can do.
Matilde Léon’s picture book, I Am Stardust, is full of powerful adjectives to define ourselves, to be confident, and pleased with all that we are. Told in rhyming verse, the plot cleverly follows a young traveler on a journey of self-discovery to build confidence. What he or she discovers are 29 loving, powerful affirmations that will help young readers (and older ones, too) feel more optimistic about themselves. With the lyrical rhymes to accompany each affirmation, young readers will learn how to be happy with themselves. It’s perhaps the most important skill for anyone to learn.
The rhymes are catchy and will be easy to remember, making it a positive activity for young readers to quote them. The illustrations are superb and certainly help carry the plot along while emphasizing the important points being presented. I love the affirmation for “I am enough”: “Making music is so relaxing and cool./ It’s my favorite subject at school./ Even if there’s no band around,/ I make sure there’s good sound.” Indeed, music is the key to positive affirmations.
