I Don’t Hate You is a second-chance romance that tells the story of rock star Chase and single mom Alexis. They were together a long time ago before his band hit it big and he left her—and his son—in the dust. But now Chase’s grandmother is dying, and he’s back in the small town where he grew up, and he’s staying until her final goodbye. But Grandma Luanne is a spitfire despite her prognosis, and she’s working hard to get Alexis and Chase to reconcile. There is a lot of history between these two, and author Melina Druga drops in details about their romantic and general history to show us why this isn’t such an easy reconciliation. Despite the clear attraction and feelings that still exist between them, Alexis and Chase seem to be unable to set aside their baggage.

Melina Druga does a good job of showing the couple’s struggles, at least emotionally, as things are just fine between them in the bedroom. I liked the way Chase and Alexis were with each other when they weren’t fighting about the past. Grandma Lu was such a fun character, adding the perfect amount of humor to I Don’t Hate You. Any good second-chance romance has a rival, and this story has Austin, but he just wasn’t likable, so for me, there were no real stakes that she’d choose him. I really loved the way the characters grew, especially Chase, reflecting on the role he played in the breakup. It was refreshing and made him even more likable. Overall, this is a solid second-chance romance.
