I Lost My Elephant is written by Donna McFarland and illustrated by Gayatri Ray. A little boy is distraught because he can’t find his baby elephant, Ellie. He searches his room, the kitchen, and the park and doesn’t find her. He thinks about all the things that Ellie likes to do and begins searching for Ellie away from his home. He searches the zoo, the fair, the food court, and the veterinarian’s office. Still, there’s no sign of his best friend, Ellie the elephant. The little boy talks to everyone he comes into contact with and searches everywhere he can think of, but still, he can’t find Ellie. How far could Ellie have gone? Will the little boy find her? Is Ellie lost for good, or will she return home safely? What will the little boy do if he can’t find his best friend?
I Lost My Elephant is an adorable children’s book that will keep kids entertained by the big elephant that somehow eludes the young boy searching for her. I love how Ellie’s movements give this story an air of mischief and adventure that makes it both interesting and comical. The illustrations by Gayatri Ray are beautiful and add extra fun that kids will love as they follow the little boy’s movements through the story. I recommend I Lost My Elephant to young children who are ready to start reading, especially those who enjoy adventures with exotic animals who have minds of their own.
