Author Biography

Since the 1980s, I've journeyed across continents, my affinity for words began at the tender age of 9, with poetry and short stories offering an enchanting escape. Little did I know this hobby would soon blossom into a lifelong passion.

Much of my inspiration can be traced back to Mrs. Love, my English teacher in secondary school, who ignited my love for the written word. A memorable chapter of my life began in 1985 when I relocated to Tripoli, Libya. With a scarcity of books in schools, I took it upon myself to craft stories for the children at the local British institutions. This period of scarcity emphasized the incredible power of books; in their absence, we yearn for the solace they provide. So, as a community, we came together, turning voids into vibrant tales.
My writing journey didn't stop there. I contributed to various newspapers worldwide, including 'The Times' in Kuwait in '89, right on the cusp of the first Gulf conflict, and penned articles in Libya, Sweden, the UK, and numerous other countries. The tales of my adventures are both vast and varied.
Today, I call Portugal home.

I ardently believe in the power and significance of books, particularly for our younger generation. Every child deserves a life filled with joy, understanding, and contentment. While reality sometimes paints a different picture, we can always aspire for a better world.

Guiding me through all my adventures is a simple, yet profound motto: "Always be the very best you can be."

In a World of Colour, Julie Hodgson combines the vibrant world of color with the rhythm of rhyming. Julie catches the imaginations of children using the various colors that brighten all creation. This book will delight children as they learn their colors. To illustrate the various colors, Julie uses images from nature. From simple sky blue to the more intricate orange of a tiger or certain types of owls, color surrounds each one of us. Can you imagine how dull life would be if everything was only black or white? Instead of boredom, color gives the world life and excitement. Join Julie as she travels the world and shares all the wonders of color.

In a World of Colour is a children’s picture book full of both rhyme and color. Julie Hodgson captures the world in simple rhymes and presents the colors as found all around us. The colorful artwork is done by Julan. As you read this book with your child, be sure to ask the child what color the words are. Reading this book is just plain fun. However, I appreciate how Julie combines the fun of reading with the world of color. We need more books that join fun with learning. After reading this book, plan a color hunt with your child. Walk around the block or take a nature walk while counting how many different colors you can see. Your child will enjoy reading this book and any new activity you can come up with by using the book as a starting point.

In a World of Colour by Julie Hodgson is a delightful children’s picture book about the colors that make up the tapestry of life that we live in. Each page displays a masterpiece of artistry that perfectly ties into the singsong narrative. One of my favorite personal quotes is on page 10: “Like the skin of a melon, or leaves on a tree, it’s the colour of life, as far as you see.” The words are simple and yet incredibly stirring, leaving you wanting more. Children, as well as adults, will be able to appreciate the ease with which the story reads, as well as the emotions that stay within you as the book finishes. It makes you want to venture out into the real world and find your own colors.

Julie Hodgson’s In a World of Colour resonated with me in such a way because it really sets out to create a fun learning tool to help children remember their colors by associating them with the objects that are those specific colors. Hodgson finds a way to juxtapose a poetic narrative with equally intricate pages of artwork that will appeal to young and old readers alike. The illustrations are all done by the artist Julan, and they are vibrant but still toned down enough to produce a perfect balance of words to visuals. In a World of Colour would be an excellent book to include in a pre-kindergarten and kindergarten school as a way of introducing the concept of colors into youngsters' newly forming minds.

In a World of Colour by Julie Hodgson is a children’s picture book written in UK English. Welcome to the world of color in rhyme, as each color is presented with an appropriate verse, teaching children how to recognize them and associate them with real-life things – the sun, the grass, the sky, and many more. It’s a simple story that will help children learn their colors in a bright, entertaining way, and they’ll also learn to identify the many qualities linked to the colors. Enter the world of color and allow it to brighten your life.

In a World of Colour by Julie Hodgson is a wonderful, simple rhyming picture book that tells the story of the colors, relating them to everyday objects, and the illustrations are amazing. The colors are muted and gentle but that just makes them stand out even more. I loved each rhyme and how each color conjures up images of familiar things - yellow for bananas, the sun, and fluffy ducklings, right through the range to black for a panther and purple for a magical potion. It teaches children to open their eyes and see our world for the colorful place it is. It’s a bright and cheerful story, with each color having its particular tale to tell. Children everywhere will love this book and will want it read time and again. It would also make a great book for schools to include in their younger reading classes, as all the children could get involved with it.
