In One Strength by Eric Glassey follows the author's decades-long pursuit of what he believes is a direct, ongoing instruction from the Divine. The memoir tracks Glassey from adolescence, when he first senses this pull, through a series of decisions aimed at finding the source of that guidance: reading on his own, volunteering, joining intentional communities, shifting jobs, and reshaping his private life. Each step is framed as an attempt to get closer to a connection he feels but cannot define. A decisive turn arrives in 1999–2000, when he determines that the guidance he seeks is coming to him personally, not through institutions. From that point forward, Glassey speaks on how he organizes his life around this conviction, via studying, meditating, teaching, and constructing a framework he calls In One Strength.
In One Strength by Eric Glassey is a confident and uplifting vision of life directed by inner steadiness and a conscious relationship with the Creator, and the book is unique in that I can see readers being encouraged by how accessible its ideas feel. I like that Glassey leans into the concept of turning inward through prayer and quiet contemplation, and that these can shift attention from noise and impulse toward a calm center that supports wiser choices. The writing is conversational, and Glassey's voice comes across as authentic. There is no question that he is passionate about his beliefs, but there is a lightness and an honesty to his prose that avoids being pushy. Overall, this is an excellent testimony and guide with wisdom and a great amount of heart. Recommended.
