In Inca Poison by debut novelist Kevin Chilvers, we are introduced to detective Simon Hawkins. Ex-military man and adventurer extraordinaire, he and his partner, undercover customs agent Samantha Kingsley, need to figure out what happened in the life of a murdered explorer to save the life of a kidnapped boy. They find themselves deep in the Amazon. Soon, they find that they’re chasing much more and if they don’t succeed in their quest, thousands of British military members are at risk of an untimely demise, not to mention themselves. In a book that’s often a race against time, you’ll be on the edge of your seat and cheering on Simon and Samantha, hoping against hope that they can solve this intriguing mystery before it’s too late.
Inca Poison was a fun, exciting, adventurous thrill ride of a book, and one that I loved from start to finish. Author Kevin Chilvers spent years working on this novel, and it shows. Meticulous descriptions of the Amazon rainforest made me feel like I was really there, and the character development, especially of Simon and Samantha, was truly second to none. Any reader that likes mysteries, action, adventure and military intrigue would love this book, and I am so pleased to highly recommend it. The only advice I really have for any reader would be to make sure that you have enough time to read it from start to finish when you pick it up, because you won’t want to put it down. I certainly hope that author Kevin Chilvers is hard at work on his next book, because I, for one, am anxiously waiting to see what he has in store for us next.
