Nick Chambers is grieving the recent deaths of his older brother, Alex, and mother, when his estranged younger sister, Deidre, asks to meet with him. He shows up at the rendezvous, only to be attacked by a man, whom he later learns is a demon. During the scuffle, a flaming sword appears in his hand, which helps him defeat the demon. Soon, Nick learns that after Alex’s demise, he has inherited the custodianship of the sword, also known as the Astra. The sword slays demons and can only be owned by the eldest sibling alive. It turns out the attack was set up by Deidre, who wants Nick dead to own the sword. But she’s not the only one interested in Nick. Some ancient clandestine organizations are looking to recruit a demon slayer and are unwilling to accept a “No” from Nick. As each party hunts Nick down, he must learn how to wield the sword. Find out more in Inheritance: Nick Chambers Slayer for Hire by Kevin A. Davis.
If you are looking for an urban fantasy that blends paranormal thrills with suspense, action, adventure, and a splash of drama, Inheritance by Kevin A. Davis is a perfect pick. Davis wastes no time hurling readers into the conflict with fast-paced prose. The vivid depictions captured the scenes with cinematic precision, bringing the settings to life. Nick always seemed to be dodging danger, and at every clash, I was treated to explosive, exciting action. The storyline unfolded in a way so that I couldn’t tell what was coming next. I enjoyed the lively, character-driven conversations accompanied by refreshing sarcasm and witty, introspective commentary. This page turner is an incredible debut in the Nick Chambers series.
