Allison Ivy brings gothic horror to life in Inked in Blood and Memory. Sophie, Jeremy, and Ren all grew up together in the shadow of a demonic cult that requires firstborn sons to be sacrificed. When Jeremy comes of age at 10 years old, his parents sacrifice him, and everyone believes him to be dead. Fourteen years later, Sophie heads to her winter cabin to find solitude, but when blue flowers start appearing, her peace is shattered. When a beautiful woman called Ly Thi Ren appears, Sophie thinks she knows her. But when Ren tries to convince Sophie that they are both trapped in the pages of a horror story, she doesn’t believe it. Suddenly, she’s running for her life. As the lines between truth and lies become blurred, the stakes are raised, and Ren and Sophie must fight for their very survival. Is Jeremy still alive? And can they stop more sacrifices?
Inked in Blood and Memory by Allison Ivy is a very different kind of book. With its unique plot, there is plenty of action and a lot of twists and turns. The horror and gore are tempered by the romance between Sophie and Ren, but this isn’t a book for the fainthearted. If you’ve ever read a book and dreamed of being part of it, this might just change your mind! The characters are well-developed, and you’ll be behind the main ones all the way through. The romance is a nice distraction in this layered and complex plot, and the unpredictable nature of the story will definitely hold your attention as what should have been a peaceful retreat becomes a nightmare. You will need your wits about you, though, to keep up with the constantly shifting, weaving plot. If you are a fan of gothic horror, surreal plotlines, and twisting stories, this is the book for you. Just don’t blink, or you might miss something.
