Iphelia: Awakening the Gift of Feeling reminds us that we are all born with the capacity for empathy. This remarkable book with beautiful pictures is divided into three acts: The Awakening, The Lessons, and The Gift. Erick K French's story follows Iphelia, a child born with a special gift. Iphelia can feel what others are feeling. Iphelia feels all kinds of feelings but doesn't understand why or if they are real. Yet with time, she becomes more aware and learns words to describe everything she can feel. She learns what it means to be happy, creative, proud, frustrated, confused, mad, startled, hurt, afraid, calm, safe, guilty, ashamed, etc. She also learns she can have different feelings at the same time. One day when she realizes she has the choice to be any way, any time she wants to be, she writes a powerful song and shares it with her friend and other children.
Iphelia: Awakening the Gift of Feeling is a brilliant, vibrant, rhyming, educational, and unique picture book teaching adults and children to understand the power of feeling.
