It Started With A Whale is a children's picture book written by John Kuch and illustrated by Felipe Calv. Zoe wants only one thing in life – to see a real-life whale, not just a picture of one. Her teacher is caught up in her enthusiasm and arranges an expedition for the class to find one. As they set sail on a boat, Zoe keeps her eyes focused on the water, hoping to see a wonderful whale. Will Zoe's dream come true? And what sort of adventure will she and her friends have in their search for her dream?
It Started With a Whale by John Kuch is a wonderful children's story with some amazing illustrations that bring it to life. It is written in simple language that makes it easy for kids to follow, and, as a rhyming book, it is fun to read. It's not just a short story about seeing a whale, though. This is a story about knowing what you want and doing whatever it takes to get it. It's about having the courage to chase your dreams and teaches kids that, when they put in the effort, the rewards can be amazing. All the characters are wholly likable, and some kids will see themselves in Zoe and find her easy to relate to. This is the kind of story that can help children start to think about what they want, what their dreams are, and make these happen if possible. This book should be part of every school reading group and on children's bookshelves. I guarantee your kids will want to read this book over and over again.
