Jason and the Golden Fleece - Early Myths: Greek Myths for Children by Simon Spence is the tale of Jason and the Argonauts told with a few extra parts. Jason goes up against his uncle for the title of king. His uncle tells him he will give up the throne if Jason retrieves the Golden Fleece. Jason sets out on his journey, facing many dangers along the way. He must overcome tasks and fight against mythical creatures to finally get his hands on the Golden Fleece. His victory is short lived though when his uncle refuses to hand over the throne and Jason must use trickery to take it from him.
Simon Spence has created a simple to read children's book with Jason and the Golden Fleece. Children will enjoy the bright pictures that are included and the added sound effects. The original tale wouldn't have been suitable for kids, but this book keeps the key elements of the story without being scary. Myths are very enjoyable for kids as they love reading about heroes and monsters, and Greek myths are full of them. It is the repackaging of an old tale, but it is well produced and if parents are interested in teaching their children about mythology, then I think this would be a good book to buy. I think it will do well on the market and the sound effects element will make it even more attractive to children.
