Julie & Kishore: Take Two by Carol Jackson is the second contemporary romance about an interracial couple. While this story is a romance, it really deals with the stresses and challenges that face an interracial couple, specifically two people from New Zealand and India. Julie and Kishore are married, although not in the big traditional white wedding that Julie always wanted. Kishore's proposal was fast and the preparations faster. In fact, Julie and Kishore are married in India and start the story by heading back to New Zealand to share the news with Julie's family. The story follows the ups and downs of their relationship and the fallout that they both experience because of their relationship.
This book does a really excellent job of addressing cross cultural issues. I think most readers will be intrigued by the New Zealand and India relationship and will learn a lot from this story about those cultures, their faiths and beliefs, and why certain people within those cultures believe or do not believe in marrying "outside" of one's culture. The descriptions of both lands are beautiful and readers will be transported into those countries. What a gorgeous setting choice for a romance novel, and the author does such a beautiful job of describing those areas and the vivid world the characters live in. I think this is an extremely important topic that readers will be really interested in and I recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a good romantic read.
