“Ideas are the seeds of your stories. … Given the right conditions, they will grow.” Life is full of stories and we share them all the time. We even live our stories. Teena Raffa-Mulligan’s book, Just Write: An Easy Guide to Writing Stories, is a story within itself that leads young writers on a journey to put into words the adventures that they have conceptualized. Anyone can tell a story, so it follows that anyone can write a story. All we need is to believe in ourselves, in our abilities, and sit down and write. You can be anyone, at any time, in any world of your imagination, and you can always be either the champion or the villain – it’s your personal choice. If you need some help, start by reading this book and just writing.
Teena Raffa-Mulligan’s book Just Write is a young person’s guide to writing. It’s full of her own experiences, with words of advice and encouragement, and a whole lot of step-by-step suggestions to let the seeds of ideas become your stories. The book begins with a general introduction and advances ways that young authors can germinate those seeds, and how to get the writing process going. Each chapter is a study of the various steps in writing a story, complete with a summary at the end of the chapter and some exercises aimed at the topics that were discussed. This is a working handbook. Everything the author presents is positive, encouraging even the most reluctant young author to give writing a try. We’re all storytellers. It’s something that’s been around for generations. All we need is a guide for the writing journey and the powerful belief that we can do anything we set our minds to do.
