Justice for Loretta by LeeAnne James is a three-part story that builds suspense with each page. The book begins with the main characters Loretta and Carter falling in love and then following their marriage through the years. This includes Loretta’s loving and caring for their three children, Carter’s successful business, his unfaithfulness, their disagreements, their few good times, and watching their marriage unfold. Next, we learn of Loretta's sad and awful death and the aftershock it created. When detectives and the district attorney get involved because of a revealing note, the death suddenly becomes a possible murder case. The readers are party to the gathering of the clues and have little doubt about what happened to Loretta. We next enter the courtroom and observe each day’s proceedings. We cheer the outcome and then comes a twisted ending that was a total surprise and a little hard to believe.
Justice for Loretta by LeeAnne James was an outstanding story and it was really hard to put it down until reaching the end. I loved being with Loretta and Carter from the beginning and following them through the many years of their not-so-perfect marriage. I was saddened by the death of Loretta. I was intrigued and fascinated by the intricate details involved in finding the truth and discovering the details of the crime. The court case was so real with such vivid testimony and it was impossible to guess the twist at the end, which I am not sure that I believed to be true. This novel has it all and is a must-read book for any fan of good crime stories with romance, family, and surprises thrown in for good measure. It deserves to be on the top of your reading list, as it will not disappoint in any way.
