Kai and the Kappas by Stefanie Gamarra is the adventurous tale of Kai, a little boy residing in a sleepy town called Willow Creek. He loves scary stories, so his grandmother gives him an old book filled with spooky tales. Kai is eager to share these stories with his friends. One late afternoon, while his friends are gathered in a group, Kai reads to them. He tells them the story of the Kappas, mystical water creatures who like playing tricks, snatching children, and pulling them into the water. Parents rush to console their terrified children while Kai gleefully saunters away to play. He enjoyed giving his friends such an entertaining fright. Days later, Kai proceeds to tell tall tales to the villagers. He tells them he spotted a Kappa in the creek. They don't believe him! But his tales bring him into contact with the actual creature soon enough. How will he respond to this ominous magical creature?
Kai and the Kappas portrays an enchanting tale perfect for children of all ages. The story will take readers on a magical adventure filled with valuable life lessons, friendship, imagination, and mystery. Stefanie Gamarra expertly crafts a story that will capture the imaginations of young readers from the very start. Kai's brave but naughty personality will thrill and entertain children at the same time. His intriguing encounter with the mysterious Kappa from the creek teaches him the value of honesty. Marta Pilosio beautifully illustrates the book with vibrant and bright pictures, bringing the story to life. The drawings enrich the young reader's enjoyment and make the story even more eye-catching. I recommend this book to parents, especially those with children who enjoy spooky stories with a fascinating ending.
