Hidden secrets, the ones that never escape, would explain a lot of things if only shared. But then again, those same secrets could make matters even worse. Cousins Jenny and Jade endure a hell on earth life as they battle real monsters on a daily basis. Not until they are adults and reunited does the rest of the truth come out: the story of innocence stolen, a severely dysfunctional family life and the will to survive.

Wow! Deep breaths. I wish I could say that stories like this were not as common as they are but that would not be true. Where there are predators, there shall be victims. Some will survive. My emotions were a roller coaster as I rooted for these two strong willed girls to fight, run, hide. I laughed as they planned their battle strategies and then pulled them off without regard to the eminent punishment that would fall upon them when discovered. I mentally pleaded; I cursed out loud. This is one of those books that draw the reader in to the point that they are a fly on the wall, watching the scenes unfold. You know you cannot do anything to alter the outcome but if you could, well . . . it is that kind of story. I would encourage all public libraries, domestic violence advocates and the general public to place this on their shelves. Through tragedy comes awareness (hopefully). This would make an excellent made-for-television movie, the kind where the box of tissues is to be right next to the couch.
