When Gibraltar finds himself in a hospital with three men who appear eager to leave before sunset, he thinks he is having a nightmare, unaware that without them, he would meet a fate worse than death. It takes an unaging body, a sighting of vampires, and one night’s sleep to accept that he has died and crossed over to the Underworld. But Gib, never being one to resign himself to fate, challenges the three men, Salvatore, Ladiere, and Dart, who have now become his friends, to find a way out of their horrific circumstances. This diverts their attention to the Church of His Immaculate Conception, from which rumors of an exit route are emerging. So they investigate, arriving in time to find out that vampires have infiltrated the church. In response, they join the church to set a trap, hoping to upset the status quo. But this is the Underworld. Can they defeat the vampires on their turf? Find out by reading Penn Fawn’s Kingdom of the Vampires.

Welcome to the Underworld! Not the one with guns and drugs, but the one with terror, ghouls, and vampires. In Kingdom of the Vampires, Penn Fawn takes you on a terrifying ride through a world where the regular rules of living do not apply and humans are not top of the food chain. The story takes a while to get into, but once you’re invested, its suspense could make you forget to breathe. The world-building is great, and the premise is literally out of this world. It is narrated from a third-person perspective with words that evoke graphic imagery. Although the narrative is fictional, some of the plot elements fascinated me as a religious person. I also liked how the author ended the story. It seemed tragic at first, but considering how perfectly it fits the context, it has to be a literary masterstroke. Kingdom of the Vampires has a slow start, but if you like horrifying scenes and supernatural themes, you will enjoy it.
