The festival of lost souls is one particular event Kyra does not look forward to. It is a constant reminder of the events that led to the death of her father when she was a little girl as well as the day the one man she opened up her heart to walked out on her. This year’s festival comes with a surprise. She experiences a vision telling her that her father, whom she long thought to be dead, is alive and needs her help to return to their world. Kyra knows this is one quest she will not back down from, even if it means risking her mother’s anger and the vengeance of those who suffered at her father’s hands. Adventure beckons for the young princess in Kyra: Through The Veil by Nicklous P. Adams II.

Kyra: Through The Veil is a captivating fantasy adventure. The storyline has a young Nuliani princess setting off on an arduous journey to rescue a father everyone believes died long ago. Nicklous P. Adams II sets up his mythical kingdoms quite well. Each of them is meticulously described with extensive detailing going into their origins and the relationships between them so that by the time you are past the first five chapters you understand the dynamics of the story with ease. The author extends the same level of detail to the characters, as is evidenced in Micah’s soliloquies as well as Sheol’s motivations for her actions. The developing love triangle between Kyra, Trydan, and Aegon is quite feisty with instances of passionate conversation shrouded in an aura of palpable suspense. The icing on the cake is the way the author brings all these elements together to create a rapidly flowing story that is as exciting as it is riveting to read.

This gripping tale takes us on a relentless journey alongside Kyra, brimming with unexpected twists and intense confrontations that keep you on the edge of your seat. Themes of parental acceptance and the haunting effects of war add layers of depth to the narrative, making it a thought-provoking and immersive read. Kyra: Through the Veil by Nicklous P. Adams II is an epic fantasy tale that features a strong female heroine. Kyra was just six when she lost her father in the battle to save their world. It has been five hundred years since the event. She is shocked to learn that her father who has been gone for that long is alive. But something is wrong with him. He never transitioned to the realm where people experience no danger and what happened to him in the Flame continuously haunts him; in other words, he is scarred. Before Kyra can determine how to save her father, another dangerous warrior with a grudge against him emerges from a different realm. This enemy is out to destroy Kyra's father and she is the only one who can stop him. But what lies ahead is far worse than anything she has ever encountered and her strength and resilience are about to be tested to the limit or completely destroyed.

The first thing that caught my attention in this mesmerizing tale is the author's wonderful handling of the setting. It is a fantasy world that is stunningly imagined and skillfully written, a world that coexists with other realms. The imagery is vivid like the Bended Mountains north of the city, and the Floating Mountains high above Eviana’s Sea. The descriptions translate the worldview of the protagonist and readers will revel in the fantasy world. The author's characters are finely drawn. Kyra was one of my favorites and it was interesting to watch her wrestle with her emotions. She goes through a lot of struggles in this tale and her resilience and motivation move the plot in unexpected directions. Other characters like Micah, Azrael, and Queen Akyri are cleverly written. Nicklous P. Adams II has crafted a page-turner driven by a clever plot and three-dimensional characters; it is a fascinating narrative with stellar prose and drama that keep readers spellbound.

Kyra: Through the Veil by Nicklous P. Adams II is a Young Adult epic fantasy novel that will take you on a journey to a new world. Five hundred years ago, Kyra lost her father in the Third Great War. She was 5 years old then, but the pain was still fresh. Everything changed when she found out her father was still alive. Kyra was ready to bring her father back home, but it wasn’t as easy. An enemy was lurking around the corner, and all he wanted was to get to her father before anyone else could. With time running out and evil rising, Kyra needed to find the strength within to get her father back home. Could she?

Wow, what a fantastic story! It has action, adventure, suspense, mystery, and everything you wish for in a remarkable novel. The story was outstanding, and the execution of it was phenomenal. I fell in love with world-building before I loved Kyra. Kyra was an incredible character with a lot of promise and potential, but author Nicklous P. Adams II’s world-building and narrative style stole the show for me. I was lost in the descriptions and the imagery. The first chapter intrigued me, and the second chapter made me realize there was more to Kyra (the story and the protagonist) than I originally anticipated. Her powers were intriguing, and Kyra’s struggles to harness them as she went on a journey were riveting, to say the least. Trydan was the perfect companion to Kyra; he understood her and gave her support when she needed it the most. The dialogues were powerful, the pace was perfect, and the sense of adventure was high throughout the story. The ending was great; it made me anticipate what will come next. I hope the sequel arrives soon.
