Alice and Sam are back to dating years after their school romance ended. As a celebrated history teacher, Alice is passionate about history. Sam, on the other hand, is a successful manager and a brilliant engineer. Though both swamped with work, they come up with a way to see each other: one would take a Delta flight to Atlanta or Dallas every week or two. While on vacation, they begin a search for the lost Davis treasure—a mystery from the end of the Civil War era. However, they're not alone in the search, as they're being followed closely by other interested individuals. A game-like, strategy-rich, and educative tale, Late Love Lost Gold by Clifford R. Holliday depicts a race to solve a 150-year-old mystery and find a lost treasure and Davis' final days in the Civil War.
From the beginning, it's apparent that the book is well-researched as interesting information in engineering and history is skillfully interwoven. Furthermore, Clifford's book is as suspenseful and addictive as Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island and the Indiana Jones franchise. I enjoyed examining intriguing clues and solving complex puzzles to find the lost treasure. The novel switches between romantic, adventure-filled moments in a modern time and intense, spine-chilling scenes of the Civil War. Both stories are beautifully written, balancing vivid details of the environments, naturalistic conversations, character development, and other great storytelling elements. You should read Late Love Lost Gold if you love history and treasure hunt plots. You also get an extra treat with a love story filled with warmth, funny jokes, and wholesome romantic sequences.
