Left on Rancho by Francesco Paola revolves around the main character, Andrew, a tech specialist, dragged into yet another 'get rich quick scheme' by his best friend, Charlie. This new money-making venture requires Andrew to drive to SoCal to help resurrect Charlie's up-and-coming legit cannabis business. Andrew's meetup with Charlie yields more questions than answers. It is evident that several legalities still need ironing out if Charlie's company is expected to thrive. When a competing product hits the illegal drug market, Andrew's job becomes more complex. Pretty soon, the lines between legal and illicit cannabis markets begin to blur, and corruption starts to weave its ugly head in their cannabis operations, along with existing immigration issues. After the barbaric deaths of several immigrants, Andrew has a life-changing choice to make. Will he atone for his guilt or walk away from it all?
Prepare yourself for an exhilarating ride with Francesco Paola's Left on Rancho. The author skillfully weaves a web of twists and turns, keeping you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. This gripping novel immerses readers in a world of suspense, danger, high-ranking corruption, and the cannabis industry. Paola ingeniously delves into the intricate lives of the characters, revealing the different layers therein. I love that despite the tumultuous events that develop during the storyline, Andrew remains grounded through it all. Paola's clever dialogue and word choices bring us closer to understanding Andrew's decisions and predicament without drowning readers in overly convoluted layers of exposition. The author's ability to capture the essence of the fast-paced cannabis industry is truly praiseworthy. Fans of thrillers—especially those with a corporate twist—will absolutely love this read.
