Legions of Lilith: The Awakening by Deanna R. Sweeney delves in the seemingly underwhelming life of Veronica Strange. Veronica unobtrusively goes about her life as a devoted employee at a small-town inn, but appearances can be deceiving. Since childhood, Veronica has had an inexplicable psychic connection that will now be tested by the same dark forces that have haunted her through the ages. With the help from ghosts of her past, Veronica finds herself forced into the role of heroine.

Deanna R. Sweeney does a remarkable job contrasting the mundane day-to-day existence of this quiet, sweet woman with the impending horror that threatens to destroy her. From mute ghosts to deadly villains, the character array is versatile and unique. With exacting detail, and a thinly veiled trail of foreshadowing, Legions of Lilith: The Awakening naturally blossoms into a supernatural thriller that is satisfying from beginning to end. The editing of Legions of Lilith: The Awakening is of professional quality, and the balance between character development, setting description, action, and plot development means the book will appeal to a wide array of readers.

I especially loved the inclusion of the haunted plantation with the wise old owl guardian. It added a slice of old-fashioned horror that sent chills down my spine and stayed with me long after I finished reading. As an initial book from a new author, Legions of Lilith: The Awakening is a promise of many great things from the talented Ms. Sweeney. I look forward to reading more from her for many years to come.

Legions of Lilith: The Awakening by Deanna R. Sweeney is a paranormal story that is full of surprises and thrills. Legions of Lilith starts with an introduction to Veronica Strange in her own words. Veronica is an unusual young woman with supernatural perception since she was a child. She is now in her early twenties and feels trapped in the same small town she has lived in all of her life and working at the same organization since she was a teenager. Her psychic abilities are kept to herself since, in her experience, people don’t understand them and think of her as weird or abnormal if she tries to express herself. However, things change when there is a death in the neighborhood and her abilities and gifts can no longer be kept secret. Soon, Veronica finds herself embroiled in murder, and her path towards saving herself and to finding out the truth about herself forms the plot of the book.

Legions of Lilith is a very captivating book that kept me turning the pages. I loved the beginning of the book itself and couldn’t stop reading it to find out what would come next. The character portrayal of Veronica is excellent and even with supernatural powers, she still comes across as very relatable and I found myself rooting for her. The entire cast of characters is, in fact, complementary and works well in the narrative of the book. Overall, this book contains elements of the thriller, paranormal, young adult, as well as fantasy genres and I am sure fans of these genres will enjoy this book.

She had always known that she was special. Her father had known it too, her grandmother had accepted her for it while her mother had distanced herself from Veronica for the same reason. She tried hard to understand it all. The constant visions, the ability to read an atmosphere even where words were not said, it was all too complicated. It was not until her co-worker Ryan’s death that Veronica realized that all the deaths around her could not have been a coincidence. Everything was connected. As the story progresses in Legions of Lilith: The Awakening by Deanna R. Sweeney, Veronica realizes she has a daunting task ahead of her and an equally daunting war that has to be won. An encounter with a reaper helps her understand who she is, what her mission is and how to accomplish it. It is all just the beginning.

In the young adult paranormal story, Legions of Lilith:The Awakening, Deanna R. Sweeney does a great job of balancing mystery, magic, and the contemporary world. As scenes switch from the physical to the spiritual, the plot becomes even more engaging and the suspense greatly intensifies. I especially liked how the beginning of the book starts with baffling scenes, each completely different from the other, yet they all come together as one seamless plot. Deanna R. Sweeney also creates vivid images, especially with Veronica’s visions, which added to my fascination with the story. Legions of Lilith: The Awakening is by no means your ordinary paranormal book. It was definitely a thrilling read!

Well written, engaging, page-turner. Couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. I just finished reading the second book in this trilogy, Ghosts of the Past, and it is even better than the first one. I see great things coming from this author for many years to come.

Legions of Lilith: The Awakening is a work of paranormal fantasy fiction penned by author Deanna R Sweeney, and the first in a new series. Our central character is Veronica, a small-town girl with a standard job who yearns for more and thinks she might be destined for it. A series of visions from another world have plagued her for a long time, leading her to mistrust those around her and isolate herself. So when a string of murders lands right on the doorstep where she works, Veronica comes to believe that she and her visions might be connected to the crimes. When she becomes the prime suspect, everything is on the line to discover the gruesome truth.

Veronica’s dreams of the warrior Lilith make little sense to us and to her as the novel opens, but the other world where her visions originate twists into the modern day murder plot really well as the tale progresses. Veronica’s small-town life is relatable, despite the secret powers she has, which she sometimes slips up and reveals to the townsfolk, making her an outcast that we can all root for. Author Deanna R Sweeney handles this dichotomy in her character well, dividing between the mundane and the supernatural in the same way that Veronica must divide herself. The murder mystery has a really satisfying plot to follow in itself and, coupled with Veronica’s personal journey to understand who she is and her own powers, it all makes Legions of Lilith: The Awakening a fantastic start to an exciting new fantasy series.
