Let No Clan Put Asunder by Judith Sterling is the second installment in The Gothic Gwyn Mysteries series. Gwyneth Cam is settling into her Salem home that she inherited from her late Aunt Ethel, with all its heavy furnishings and a library of Gothic romances. Her aunt is communicating with her from the dead by leaving a book on the floor titled The Dark Gift. But no sooner than Gwyn puts it back on the shelf, it reappears on her bed. Convinced her aunt really wants her to read it, she opens it and is sucked into the 1970s as Gwendolyn Hughes, who has become engaged to Alistair Robertson of the Donnachaidh clan. At the Donnachaidh castle estate, Gwyn meets Alistair’s family, Garrett, Fiona, and Jill, but learns that Alistair is missing. Even more alarming are the rumors about the family’s dark past, including legends about the male heirs all behaving strangely after their encounters with a baobhan sith or female vampire. Will Gwyn be able to figure out what is truth, legend, or real?
It was a pleasure to read another one of Judith Sterling's Gothic suspense novels. It had all the historical lore and paranormal elements. I felt like I was right there with Gwyn as she dug deeper into the mystery surrounding the Donnachaidh clan. I loved the castle setting that made the atmosphere creepy. I also loved how Gwyn questioned the strange situations around her, which made her character relatable. The supporting characters enhanced the historical layers and the secrets that gradually unfolded. In my opinion, Judith Sterling has mastered storytelling in the classic Gothic style. Readers who loved Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo would truly enjoy Let No Clan Put Asunder.
