“Life After 50: The Road to Longevity” by Dr. Paul M. Valliant is a comprehensive guide for each and every person who is approaching the age of fifty. Based upon the author’s experience of turning the age of fifty along with some of his friends, with the various changes they experienced, led him to research this topic and then write this book. There is a chapter devoted to each area of life, for example, a chapter devoted to finances, a chapter devoted to sexuality and one that discusses retirement to name a few. There are rules that are addressed throughout the book as well; for example, one rule is that exercising reduces the aging process. Each rule is discussed and supported by research and studies. The goal and hope for this book is that it gives individuals turning the milestone of fifty years a positive outlook and tips for making this milestone an enjoyable one.
Dr. Valliant has definitely done his research as this book is well-written and well-supported by the research that he has done. The chapter discussing retirement and the amount of money that must be saved in order to retire at a certain age is something that people years younger should be reading in order to plan ahead and thus making the aging process less stressful and hopefully more enjoyable. This book is packed full of a lot of valuable and useful information. I love that Dr. Valliant included an appendix in which various foods are discussed and the benefits of each one.
